Alternative Fuels
OFTEC hopes that oil users will soon be able to reduce their carbon emissions by burning bio-liquids mixed with traditional heating oil such as kerosene. Bio-liquids are fuels manufactured from sustainable renewable sources such as used cooking oil, and plants, seeds or animal fats which are grown and harvested specifically for making fuel. OFTEC hopes that government will offer incentives to enable existing users to make the switch to these more environmentally friendly fuels, and is actively lobbying for this to happen.
Existing boilers and oil-fired equipment may have to be converted to accept bio-liquid. If you already use oil, the cost of conversion would be significantly less than the purchase and installation of other renewable heating technologies such as woodchip or heat pumps.
