Help and FAQs
This website was launched in November 2019, so if you haven't visited the website since then, you will need to create a user account - it's very easy and only takes a minute! By creating an account, you will have unlimited access to our technician hub for the duration of your OFTEC registration.
The hub contains:
- technical book updates
- technical notices
- advice on your benefits of registration
- marketing support and much more.
All you need to create your website account are: your own email address, your company and technician numbers, your date of birth and you will also need to create a password. Before you start you may want to add the email address firstname.lastname@example.org
to your safe-senders list in your email account to ensure speedy delivery of your account validation email.

Having problems registering your account? Read our tips below:
The email address needs to be unique to you – no one else can create an account using the same email address, we therefore don’t recommend using emails such as email@example.com or to create an account unless you are the only person using that email address.
Your password – must be at least 8 characters (numbers and letters only - you can’t use symbols or punctuation). Eg accepted ABCD1234 – not accepted A#B?1@2Z
Your date of birth, company and technician numbers need to match the OFTEC Online database – please check you are using your current company number if you have changed employer.
Once you've entered the requested details, then click on the 'I’m not a robot' and finally hit submit.
A welcome message will pop up and you will then receive a validation email from firstname.lastname@example.org. Click on the link in the validation email and you will then be able to log in and view the technician hub.
You only need to click on the validation
email once to finalise the account creation. After this, you will be able to log into the website directly using your email address and password.
You can't log into the website until you have clicked on the validation email link. Check your junk/spam folder if you do not see the email straightaway. If this validation email arrives in your junk folder, you may need to move it to your inbox for the link to appear (either flag as not junk, or just move the email to your inbox).
If you get an error message that you are unable to resolve then please contact us.
Please note, the technician's hub can only be viewed by current technicians - so if your technician or company registration has lapsed, you will no longer be able to access those pages.
Registered your account but still unable to access the technician pages?
A small number of users have found that when they log in, the website sends them to the homepage without correctly logging them in. We are investigating this issue, but we currently believe it is connected to the password.
Go back to the login page: Type in your email address and then click on the Forgotten Password link to reset your password, this should clear
any previous issues and allow you to log in using a new password.
Trade association member logins
Members login in a slightly different way - when we launched the website, we sent out member login details to all current contacts in our database. If you cannot find this email, simply enter your email address and click on the forgotten password link and follow the on screen instructions to reset your password. If your email address was not recognised, please email the marketing team.
Finding a heating technician
We offer a find a technician search facility on the website which enables you to find OFTEC registered businesses in your local area. If you are in the UK you search by postcode, those in the Republic of Ireland need to use their County. Simply select the type of work required and you will be given a list of local businesses who all have technicians qualified to carry out that specific work.
We would always recommend getting quotes from several businesses before engaging someone to carry out work on your property.
Checking a business is OFTEC registered
If you have been recommended a heating business by a friend or neighbour but you would like to check whether they are OFTEC registered, you can also do this on our find a technician search facility. Not all businesses offering installation or servicing of liquid fuel heating systems, renewables or solid fuel are registered with OFTEC, read about why you should choose an OFTEC registered business here.
Need a works notification certificate?
If you are moving house, chances are, the solicitors may ask for a copy of the works notification certificate for any heating equipment that has been installed in your property. They may also call this a building regulations certificate, or a compliance certificate. Since 2002, in England, Wales, The Isle of Man and the Channel Islands it has been a requirement to notify the local building control department of any new heating equipment - whether it is a fuel storage tank, boiler, solar panel or even a wood burning stove. If you cannot find this certificate and the work was carried out by an OFTEC registered business, you can order a duplicate.
